Swine flu: Michael Jackson 'worried about flying to Britain'

Michael Jackson is refusing to fly to Britain because he is worried about catching swine flu, it has been claimed.

The singer, who has worn face masks for years, was planning to come to this country in the next few weeks to find a suitable temporary home where he could stay while on tour.

A number of properties, include a couple in Biggin Hill, were being lined up for him to inspect.

But the 50-year-old father of three has delayed his visit until fears surrounding the swine flu - H1N1 virus - subside, according to the Daily Express.

A source told the paper: "Michael wanted to come over for viewings in the next few weeks because he wants to make sure the property is just right - after all he will be renting it from now until February next year.

"But that is off for the time being. We are going to send him videos. Michael doesn't want to travel because of the worry surrounding the flu outbreak."

Jackson is due to perform more than 50 concerts at the O2 Arena in Wembley, which start in July and run until February.

The concert, entitled This Is It, is being billed as a final comeback for the troubled star whose career has been dogged by claims of child abuse, financial trouble and ill-health.

Michael Jackson’s Auction Photos!

Obrázok

Michael Jackson’s auction may or may not be going ahead as planned - it’s still apparently up in limbo as to whether the King Of Pop did in fact bar the auction house from going ahead with its planned auction - but comedian Paul Scheer (of Human Giant and Best Week Ever fame) went to check out all the stuff.

Behold, a treasure trove of crazy things. For instance, the painting of Michael Jackson being knighted and crowned at the same time. Or the welcome mat, which one Flickr user describes as “a pedo version of the Dreamworks logo”. It’s all there, folks.

For a full look, check out the Flickr Page of comedian Paul Scheer.

Shure's Wireless Technology 'Thrills' Michael Jackson Fans

When the producers of the Thriller Live musical arrived at the Lyric Theatre, they found themselves presented with the tough challenge of isolating a wireless radio frequency in the heart of London's theatre district. After much deliberation, the company turned to Shure's wireless technology and JFMG to provide the solution.

The iconic venue is located in London's West End, surrounded by numerous theatre, musical and comedy productions. The crowded nature of the area made isolating a wireless RF for on stage instruments and vocal artists very difficult. Chris Whybrow, the production's Sound Designer, explains, "The issue we have in such a densely populated area is isolating RF channels that are not already in use. We basically needed to make sure we weren't stepping on anyone's toes."

Following a full assessment of his requirements, Whybrow selected a range of UHF-R Wireless Microphone Systems supplied by audio specialists Shure Distribution UK. "When we discussed our requirements and the frequency isolation issue with Shure they were confident they could help" comments Whybrow. "They have experience working with limited frequency environments and were very helpful in ensuring the right kit for the job was chosen." Whybrow also contacted JFMG, the Joint Frequency Management Group, regarding frequency usage and to obtain the required license for operation.

The installation used a selection of Shure's UHF-R systems on the frequency band Q5, which allowed for easier set up of this mutli-channel system in a busy RF environment. Performers reproducing the king of pop's greatest hits are provided with one of seven UR2/KSM9 microphones, finished in both black and champagne. The KSM9's dual-diaphragm design perfectly reproduces vocal performances in the live environment and, coupled with the UR2 transmitter, provide a rugged and lightweight solution with improved RF transmission reliability.

Whybrow comments, "The combination of the Q5 frequency band and Shure's wireless technology has given us a very strong RF frequency. We don't get any interference from other microphones or shows."

Successful RF transmission was achieved through a combination of UR4D dual wireless receivers and UR1 wireless body packs. The compact UR1 body packs provide transmission from the stage while still allowing a full range of movement by the performers. Transmissions are fed to six UR4D dual wireless receivers, each capable of selecting 2,400 frequencies and storing six 60 channel custom frequency groups.

The UHF-R equipment was able to easily find sufficient clean frequencies within the theatre and provide a first class sound experience without interfering with other close by performances. Whybrow comments "We were able to successfully use the Q5 frequency band for the show and in all we have 16 channels running for the production. We're also using two UA870WB antennas to enhance wireless reception in the theatre area and two UA845 antenna distributors to amplify the RF signals and properly split them to our six UR4D receivers."

The system has proved ideal for our needs and will remain a permanent installation for the production's entire extended run. Shure wireless systems are also being used with the European version of the production, which is currently touring the continent.

Wanna Buy Some Jackson 5 Records?

Everybody starts somewhere and, for the Jackson 5, “somewhere” is Gary, Ind. Now the group’s first producer is selling his stash of early J5 recordings.

Saying he could “use the money,” Gordon Keith is dusting off mint recordings of the band’s first record – “Big Boy” – released on Steeltown Records in 1968 as well as rehearsal tapes, demos and master mix tapes, according to the Gary Post-Tribune.

Keith also has about 100 copies of the group’s 45 rpm pressing of “We Don’t Have To Be Over 21” with “Jam Session” on the flip side.

“Motown had turned the Jacksons down two or three times before I recorded them,” Keith said.

Keith, who bills himself as the Jackson 5’s original discoverer, is also selling the 1968 contract he signed with Atlantic Records to distribute the group’s Steeltown recordings, and is thinking about selling, “with stipulations,” the 1967 contract he signed with family patriarch Joe Jackson for the brothers’ services.

A bank vault contains most of Keith’s J5 collection. Many, if not all, recordings are in mint condition and portray the group before the world discovered Michael and his brothers when Motown released “I Want You Back” in 1969.

Although Keith hasn’t yet decided how he’s going to sell his collection of early Jackson 5 recordings, he expects to make hundreds of thousands of dollars from records that represent, not only the group’s beginnings but also an important part of pop music’s history.

“When I finally recorded them, I said, well, I know this group is gonna make it all the way, so I'm going to put away some of their recordings and other paraphernalia,” Keith said. “So that's why I have these now. I knew that they were gonna be big.”

Swine flu keeps Michael out of UK and confines Oasis to hotel room

Two of the biggest performers on the UK music scene this summer - Michael Jackson and Oasis - have changed their plans in response to the spread of the swine flu virus.

Although the Thriller star was originally reported to have rented Rod Stewart's place in Essex as a base for his 50-date O2 residency in July, where he will be staying is apparently still up in the air and he was due to to fly into Britain soon to start looking for somewhere to live. In light of the current health concerns the 50-year-old has decided to remain in LA.

Michael has a legendary fear of germs and has worn surgical masks for years. Now a source reveals the singer, who's been following news about the flu via the internet, is using "the best protective masks around" and has stepped up vigilance by using hand-sanitising gels.

"He still wants to come over to view the properties, but he's monitoring the situation and has postponed travel for the time being," the source added. "Of course if the situation improves and it looks to have died down he will travel over."

British rockers Oasis have more immediate flu-related problems. Currently touring Venezuela, Gallagher siblings Noel and Liam have holed up in their hotel, along with their bandmates, to try and avoid the threat.

The band got to perform only in the capital of Caracas before their management ordered them to stay inside. Lead guitarist Noel has found every cloud has a silver lining.

"Noel thinks the surgical masks look amazing," a source has said. "He's been joking that he feels like a James Bond baddie. He's keeping his for the summer gigs back in the UK."
